Actors

In no particular order, here are some of my favourite actors

Sam Rockwell

There is something about Sam Rockwell. Maybe it’s because he was in Moon which has become one of my top films of all time but I think Rockwell has a phenomenal range of acting ability. It’s a shame that he isn’t a bigger name than he is because I’d love to see him in more films but until then I’ll take what I can get. Moon 2 anyone?

Christian Bale

As much as Christian Bale seems to be a bit err… highly strung, he has been Batman, John Connor and Moses so he’s doing alright! The incredible dedication he has shown to become the sack of skin and bones he was in The Machinist makes him a top ten actor alone. If you haven’t seen The Machinist, I’d highly recommend it.

Robert De Niro

Every time I see Robert De Niro in a Comedy film I always forget that he has a long history of comedic roles and I always like him in these more light hearted roles. Of course you cannot forget his seminal roles in crime dramas like Goodfellas, Casino, Heat, the list really does go on and on. In short though, I wish he was my grandad!

Michael Fassbender

Michael Fassbender is another person who should have more star pulling power than he does. Ok, he might not look like Steve Jobs but his performance in the film of the same name proves he can act better than most. Then of course you have him as Magneto from the X-Men which is a piece of inspired casting because he really fits the role.

Chris Hemsworth

He’s Thor. Sure, it might not be the best Marvel film but he’s still Thor dammit! Let’s face facts, women want to be with him, men want to be him and I have to say; I’m no different. What makes it all the more annoying is that not only is he actually a pretty good actor but he seems to be a really nice guy as well as being a handsome bastard!

Ben Kingsley

Is there anyone who acts with greater intensity than Ben Kingsley? Tom Hardy maybe?! Although he’s not exactly the leading actor in many films of late I consistently find him being the best part about the films he is in and manages to captivate audiences with ease. His small roles in Sexy Beast and more recently in Iron Man 3 are perfect examples of this.

Tom Hardy

Now an Oscar nominee thanks to The Revenant, Hardy has been going from strength to strength. Sure you might not be able to understand him as Bane from Batman (and indeed, as Fitzgerald in the Revenant) the role has become iconic. Hardy, like Kingsley above, is an incredibly intense actor and I can’t wait to see more of him.

Leonardo DiCaprio

Poor Leo. He’s never won an Oscar no matter how hard he tries. Of course that may all change this year with The Revenant and hopefully it does because if there is one man who deserves an Oscar it has to be Leo. Forget Titanic, just look at his roles in The Wolf of Wall Street, The Departed or Inception if you need proof.

Michael Caine

“My name is Michael Caine and I am a nosey neighbour.” That sketch in The Fast Show was my first exposure to who Michael Caine was but over the years I saw more and more of his work and now I love him. I think he’s a terrific actor and has been in numerous iconic roles but more importantly, how can you not love that voice of his?

Eddie Redmayne

Redmayne is a bit of a wildcard. He is unquestionably an amazing actor – if you haven’t seen the Theory of Everything it’s well worth a watch – and even his supporting role in Les Mis was impressive. Yet, at the same time, I’m starting to get bored of the melodramatic roles he takes. It’d be nice to see him in something normal for a change.
